AD Script Errors

July 13, 2009 Leave a comment

If you have manually installed an agent on a Domain Controller or the Domain Controller is using a Gateway Server to communicate within a Management Group then you might well see the following script errors:

AD Database and Log : The script ‘AD Database and Log’ failed to create object ‘McActiveDir.ActiveDirectory’.
The error returned was: ‘ActiveX component can’t create object’ (0x1AD)

or

AD Lost And Found Object Count : The script ‘AD Lost And Found Object Count’ failed to create object ‘McActiveDir.ActiveDirectory’. This is an unexpected error.
The error returned was ‘ActiveX component can’t create object’ (0x1AD)

This is because the AD Management Pack requires a Help Object (ooMADs.msi) which is installed automatically on a push install via a Management Server. The file can be copied and manually installed from the OpsMgr software … there is a HelpObjects folder where ooMADS.msi can be run from).

Replication Overrides don’t work

July 10, 2009 Leave a comment

They do … but it isn’t that intuitive …. you need to make sure that an overridden parameter is set for every rule and for every monitor that uses the parameter.

When you override a parameter, make sure that the parameter is configured for each rule that uses the parameter and for each monitor that uses the parameter. There may be more than one rule or monitor that uses the particular parameter.

For example, the following rules and monitors use the Intersite Expected Max Latency parameter:

Monitors

* AD Replication Monitoring

Rules

* AD Replication Performance Collection – Metric Replication Latency
* AD Replication Performance Collection – Metric Replication Latency: Maximum
* AD Replication Performance Collection – Metric Replication Latency: Minimum
* AD Replication Performance Collection – Metric Replication Latency: Average

Fran├žois Dufour has posted an excellent article on AD replication latency monitoring issues:
